August 15 — August 22

This Workshop is directed by world-renowned choral conductor Simon Carrington, who divides the week into coaching, master classes, rehearsals and seminars for advanced singers and choral conductors.

Repertoire ranges from the Renaissance to the 21st century and includes both choral and instrumental music. Conductors sing as members of the choir and conduct instrumental as well as choral ensembles.

The week culminates in a concert held in the acoustically superb Music Shed, featuring the Fellows of the Workshop. All Workshop sessions as well as the final concert are audio and video recorded.

The Norfolk program was everything I had hoped it would be, and much, much more.  I was hoping that my summer would broaden my understanding in conducting, challenge me musically, re-excite me about what I'm doing, and in general expand my horizons.  I consider that I have been very much expanded by my experience with you this summer!  I found your course to be perfect for all of these goals.  I was very challenged (and almost, but not quite intimidated), but because of your wonderfully positive and supportive, yet demanding, style, I didn't shy away from that challenge, but embraced it, and consider myself a much expanded musician due to the experience.

It was a joy to conduct and sing in the Norfolk Chamber Choir. From the start, the singers were ready to perfect subtle musical details and discuss techniques used to produce a wide array of vocal sounds. I recall a moment in which we all focused to achieve maximum relaxation in the jaw and to not allow the chin to come forward. It was an incredible opportunity to discover small details that truly changed the choir's sound.
